Antique Miniature Detrick Distilling Co. "Motto Jug" and Stoneware Jug

A pair of antique miniature stoneware jugs. The collection includes a cream tone jug with cobalt handle with no discernible maker’s marks and a larger ‘Motto Jug’ by Detrick Distilling Co., Dayton, OH finished in a cream and dark brown glaze with black lettering to the side. Detrick Distilling Co. operated 1818-1919 and were widely known for their twelve different ‘Motto Jugs’. This jug features the proverb, ‘As I go up the hill of prosperity, may I never meet a friend.’

Condition

- some markings and discoloration noted; hairline crack in the mouth of the jug with the cobalt handle.
