An oil painting on canvas of an abstracted figurative scene by Alexander Kreisel (American/ Russian, 1901 – 1953). The work depicts a variety of figures using thick, gestural strokes with black lines adding detail to the composition. To the bottom right, the work is signed. The painting is presented with a wooden built-in frame.
Alexander Kreisel was born in Russia in 1901 but eventually found himself in New York City where he studied at the Cooper Union Art School. Kreisel was also a member of The Art Students League of New York. The artist was known for his oil paintings and his work as an educator.
Condition
- some wear to the edges of the frame; some paint marks to the surface of the frame; craquelure throughout the surface of the image; to the verso, some staining to the canvas.
