Lidded Haida Gwaii Style Boxes by Boma of Canada

Item Details

A pair of lidded Haida Gwaii style boxes by Boma Manufacturing of Canada. Created for the Canadian Museum of Civilization, each of these two lidded boxes is made of a crushed composite of black marble reclaimed from Texada Island in British Columbia, combined with resin and coloring. The result simulates argillite, the black sedimentary stone from which the Haida Gwaii First Nations people of British Columbia create artwork of a similar style to the human and animal relief images on these boxes. Each box is marked ‘Made Boma, Vancouver, Canada’ to the interior. Also included are dice, a deck of cards, and some loose papers.
