Hand-Knotted Persian Tabriz Wool Area Rug
Item Details
A finely hand-knotted silk and wool Tabriz area rug. This area rug has a very fine knot count and features an ornate star pendant medallion encircled in vasiforms with floral bouquets and palmettes. The star is made up of scrolled elements in watermelon, gold, peach, moss green, violet, cerulean blue and cranberry. The medallion is placed on an ivory field with Shah Abassi palmettes and purling vines including large vasiform medallions at the spandrels. The very wide primary border is a pattern of filler vasiform elements with floral sprays, palmettes, floral blossoms and lancet leaves overlapping minor borders grounded in watermelon, ivory and peach. It has a wide kilim skirt at each end, overcast selvedge edges and long warp fringe. Labeled to the verso ‘Iranian Handicraft’.
