19th Century Oil on Canvas Landscape

An antique oil painting on canvas. This realistically rendered landscape painting depicts two fishermen in a canoe drifting down a broad river lined with dense foliage. A tall dark thicket of trees growing on the near side of the bank dominates the right side of the composition.The unsigned work is presented in a gold tone wood and gesso frame. The canvas is stamped to the verso ‘F.W. Devoe and Co.’. There is a hanging wire mounted to the verso.

Condition

- craquelure throughout; discoloration to varnish; abrasions with loss to paint to lower left; chipping and significant cracking throughout frame particularly to corners and outer edges.
