Hand-Knotted Persian Zanjan Carpet Runner
Item Details
A Persian Zanjan carpet runner. This wool rug is hand knotted in a palette of black, cream, rose, camel, crimson and powder blue. It begins with a small serrated diamond medallion grounded in cream and filled with stylized palmettes and flowers. The medallion floats on a black field, which features a geometric, dense herati pattern incorporating palmettes, flowers, leaves and vinework, with small animal figures and boteh tucked in. Spandrels are grounded in dark rose. Framing the field are three borders, including a main border filled with repeating motifs made up of two boteh and a single palmette over cream. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with wool warp fringe. A label on the reverse includes numerical codes but no maker’s information.
