A vintage South Asian embroidered toran or Khalyk textile. Toran are hung in doorways, especially during celebratory events. This exceptional example is made of woven cotton, with floral patterns rendered in chain stitches, in a palette of pale yellow, pink, cream, green and light brown. Bundled fabrics serve as tassels, sewn to the ends of panels of fabric. The textile is unlined, with loops at the ends, to secure it to a doorway. No maker’s labels.
