A slate bed and buggy warmer. Slate slabs such as this were typically warmed up and then wrapped in a blanket to keep its owners warm while in bed or on buggy rides. This piece is fashioned from fine-grained black metamorphic rock, and has a swinging metal handle pierced through one end.
