An original ink drawing on paper by Contemporary American artist Carol J. Mathews (1956-2015). The abstract drawing features floral and foliage motifs, rendered in a bold black and white palette that creates a dynamic contrast between the positive and negative spaces. The work is unsigned, and is marked to the verso with the artist’s estate stamp. Presented behind a double white mat, under glass, in a simple black composite frame. It is ready to hang with two metal tabs and a printed artist statement is attached to the verso.

Mathews, known for her colorful and expressive paintings and drawings, describes her work as follows . . . having painted for over 25 years, it is difficult to describe my art but whimsical, abstract, and fantasy come to mind . . . After years of suffering from mental illness, Carol’s art became a crucial conduit for her internal turmoil. A portion of the proceeds from this sale will go to NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
