Antique Framed "Kaloma" Photogravure

Item Details

In Plate

A photogravure titled ‘Kaloma’. The photo print shows a young woman dressed in sheer gauze peignoir and bending forward slightly with her hands pressed to her legs, her face tilted upward and her eyes connecting with the camera. The original photo for this print was taken in 1881 in Tombstone, Arizona and has increased in popularity over time with the peak of popularity due to the alleged claim that the photograph is of Josephine Earp, wife of famed American gambler and US Marshall Wyatt Earp although this has not been proved. The piece is marked ‘Kaloma’ and ‘Copyright 1914 – P.N. Co.’ to the bottom center and right, respectively. The P.N. Co. printed what is thought to be the first mass pressing of the picture in 1914.
