"La Fée des Glace" by Julien Caussé

Item Details

Bronze

An original work by Julien Caussé titled ‘La Fée des Glace’. This resplendent, Art Nouveau sculpture is an authentic work by French artist Julien Caussé . Caussé was a prolific Art Nouveau sculptor working from 1890 until his death in 1914. He studied under Alexandre Falguière and his pieces were shown at many French exhibitions in the late 19th century, earning him both awards and recognition. The piece, titled ‘La Fee des Glace’ meaning ‘The Ice Fairy’ in French, is one of his best known works and depicts a woman smiling peacefully with her eyes closed and her hands clasped in front of her. The woman, made of dark bronze with a subtle green patina, has hair flowing down her back, a flower crown and a long, draping dress. She sits loosely atop an opalescent glass base sculpted to resemble a melting ice block. The base is signed ’J. Caussé ’ to the back of the fairy.
