An antique oil painting on canvas by Italian painter Domenico Pesenti (1843-1918). This realistic Victorian scene depicts a man leaning out of a window and presenting a rose to a woman in a window just above his while a man on a fiddle and a woman with a guitar serenade them from below. The scene is set above a dirty city alley with outdoor sink and basin for washing clothes, representing a realistic view of the historic city life. The piece is signed in paint to the lower left corner and dated ‘1883’. It is presented as an unframed, stretched canvas.
Condition
- some discoloration to piece; wear to edges and corners of canvas with loss of paint towards corners of canvas; frame tape around edges; appears to have been relined.
