Look who’s coming to town…an original found-objects sculpture by ‘The Toy Maker’ Brian Kidwell. This wonderful, whimsical one-of-a-kind, hand crafted ceiling hanging sculpture, titled ‘North Pole Ski Patrol,’ features a well dressed Santa and Mrs. Claus, sitting upon a red painted wood ski lift chair, sporting skis, and holding toys for good girls and boys. The hand-made Santas have Hydrocal molded faces, hand painted each, wool and velvet clothing, with what feels to be real fur trimmings on hoods, coats, and boots. There is a mounted hand painted sign ‘North Pole Ski Patrol’, and an ornate scrolled hook for hanging. The red slatted ski lift chair is signed to the back, ‘Brian Kidwell 2000’.
Brian Kidwell, known as ‘The Toy Maker’ restores antique toys and dolls, carves wood, shapes copper and shiny brass, collects furs and fabrics, sculpts and sews, with all this work going into creating his unique creations
Kidwell’s father, a narrative artist, sculptor and painter, was known for creating atypical works of art that were part household scrap, part industrial refuse. Family trips included scrutiny of junkyards and garage sales for likely components of future projects.
