A 19th-century Continental oil painting on canvas interior scene. Depicted is a courtly woman trying on a fine, multi-strand necklace with a woman to her right and a maid kneeling in front of her. The composition is rendered in fine detail with attention to line and traditional school-taught values. The work remains unsigned and is presented in a gilt and gesso wood frame with deep cove moulding.
Condition
- evidence of restoration and cleaning throughout (fluoresces under UV light); overpainting present to the top right and around the edges of the canvas; craquelure present throughout; minor scratches and marks to the frame throughout.
