An oil painting on linen titled Antennae by celebrated contemporary artist Tom Levine (American, b. 1945), created in 2009. A fine example of Levine’s work, this abstract composition features a grid-like design exhibiting rows of squares on unprimed linen; filled with gestural brushstrokes and triangular shapes, the squares are painted with subdued beige and gray hues accented with blue and orange delineations. The work is signed, title, and dated to the verso, and the composition remains unframed.

Tom Levine was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, and has painted since a young boy. He received a B.A. in English and Business from Miami University, a Master’s in Psychology and Communications from The University of Denver, and an M.F.A. in Art History from the University of Cincinnati. His abstract and figural has received considerable recognition having been exhibited and collected by numerous art institutions, such as the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the National Gallery in Washington, among many others. Levine is also an avid art collector, having owned works by several of his peers including Roy Lichtenstein, David Hockney, and Jasper Johns.
