Antique Intaglio with Mezzotint After George Romney's "Emma Hart in a Straw Hat"

Item Details

By Hand

A late 19th-century intaglio print on paper with mezzotint embellishments titled Emma Hart in a Straw Hat, created after a circa 1785 painting by listed British artist George Romney (1734 – 1802) . The piece depicts a portrait of British actress Lady Emma Hamilton (1765 – 1815) shown seated and wearing a pink shawl and a large straw hat with green bow. The print is rendered inside an oval field, signed and inscribed illegibly in graphite to the lower right. It is set under French-style matting and presented under glass in a vintage gold tone wooden frame with hanging wire mounted to the verso. The frame includes a sticker to the backing from Kansas City’s Sarachek’s Fine Art Gallery and features ornate floral and Art Nouveau-inspired moulded decoration with applied color accents in green, red and teal hues.
