Antique Colonial Revival Rocking Chair

Item Details

An antique Colonial Revival rocking chair. This mahogany stained birch American rocking chair circa 1900 has an exuberantly carved back of two intertwined dolphins around an escallop with foliage at their snouts and tails. The carvings attach at the seat and at the U-shaped arms that end in gaping fish heads which are supported by a C scroll attached to the solid shaped plank seat. The chair rests on cabriole legs in the front with turned legs and stretchers toward the rear, with both sets of legs set into rockers. There is no apparent maker’s mark.
