Large Semi-Antique Hand-Knotted Persian Vase Area Rug

A large semi-antique Persian area rug. This curvilinear wool rug is hand-knotted in a palette of cranberry, midnight blue, tangerine and azure. It features a mirrored vase design beginning with an ogival medallion in cranberry and tangerine with azure scrollwork, pendants at top and bottom each leading to a vase and cartouche-enclosed bowl. These elements rest on a contoured midnight-blue inner field amid floral arabesques and a quartet of vases, each decorated with kufic motifs. Surrounding the inner field is an outer region grounded in cranberry and filled with crisply rendered birds, paisley boteh, flowers, palmettes, and cartouches containing bowls. The field is framed by compound, broken borders, over tangerine, cream, cranberry, and midnight blue, featuring colorful birds, boteh, vasiform orbs, flowers, and palmettes. Selvedges are overcast, the rug finishing at each end with long, fine wool warp fringe. The rug is unlabeled.
