Chinese Blanc de Chine Figure of Guanyin

A Chinese blanc de chine porcelain figure of Guanyin, bodhisattva of compassion and mercy. The figure is well modeled and depicts Guanyin seated atop a flower pedestal, which rises out of a swirling sea and on the back of a serpent, because she is the patron saint of seafaring men. The figure holds her hands in the Karana Mudra to ward of evil and is adorned simply but regally with falling lotus blossoms. There are impressed marks on the back of the flower petal.
