Pair Vintage Painted Glass Decanters
Item Details
A pair of vintage painted glass decanters. Each features a globular stopper, elongated neck, and bottle shaped body which terminates in a round foot. They are decorated with a gnarled gilt tree flowering with white blossoms. The bottles bear an embossed mark to the underside which reads: ‘Federal law prohibits sale or reuse of this bottle,’ indicating production in the United States c. 1935-1964. This law was passed shortly after the repeal of Prohibition, intended to discourage reuse of bottles for bootleg liquor.
Condition
- cork missing from stopper of one bottle; some residue to interior; minor marks and faint scratches throughout.
