Antique Sugar Box With Cutter / Breaker

An antique sugar box with a knife cutter / breaker. This piece comprises a rectangular dark veneered pine box with a hinged lid, and a breaker with a wooden handle and forged metal blade screwed onto a wooden block inside of the box. The piece appears to be constructed with a single large dovetail or box joint to each side. No maker’s marks were noticed on the box or the cutter.

Condition

- nicks and chips including large chip at lower right corner. Veneer worn and peeling. Cracks in handle. Residue inside box.
