Antique Louis XV Style Ballroom Side Chairs, Circa Mid to Late 19th Century

A pair of antique Louis XV style ballroom side chairs, mid to late 19th century. The walnut frames feature scalloped, acanthine crests carved with C-scrolls and rosettes above pierced, vertical splats with incised, latticework cartouches. Directly below are shaped, padded seats upholstered in faded, green leather with brass tacks along the edges. The chairs rise on foliate-carved, cabriole legs centered by scrolled and bowed, front seat rails and ending in elevated, whorl feet.

Condition

- one chair with a small chip as well as a repair to left side of front seat rail; other chair with a small crack/repair to top of right stile and a repair to the back, right leg; there are some chips to the knee of the front, right leg and a larger chip/loss to the front, left foot; both chairs with fading and stains to leather upholstery; upholstery is later; some later reinforcement blocks added to underside of seats; other minor surface wear as would be expected.
