An oil painting on canvas of a Cincinnati street corner by listed German-born artist Carl Alex von Volborth (1919-2009). This work, believed to present the corner of Vine and East McMicken near downtown Cincinnati, Ohio, depicts a sky criss-crossed by telephone lines and a row of dark brick buildings, a red car parked on one side of the light gray street. This work is signed ‘CAV’ to its lower left corner and is mounted in a gold tone frame with a pale liner. There is an ink notation to the verso of the canvas reading ‘Carl Alex von Volborth, Cincinnati, Ohio, July 1966.’
Condition
- fair; area of paint loss in sky right side; would benefit from cleaning; surface wear to edges and corners of frame; paint loss to frame; backing paper has been cut; hanging hardware appears to have been removed.
