An oil painting on canvas of a market scene by listed artist Dennis Ainsley (American, 1880–1952). This painting, rendered in a palette of pastel tones, features loose brushwork and areas of layered paint. Depicted is a street scene with market vendors along the sidewalk and townspeople carrying out daily tasks. The street is lined with rustic buildings and a tall, brick architectural structure with a prominent tower can be seen to the distance. It is signed by hand to the lower left corner. To the verso is a graphite notation attributing the title as ‘Market Near the Spasskaya Tower, Moscow’. The painting is housed in a gold tone wood and gesso frame with stylized acanthus leaf motif molding and a metal hanging wire to the verso.
