A mid-century mixed media painting on paper titled Concarneau by well-listed French artist Frank-Will (1900 – 1951). The Impressionist-inspired work depicts a 19th-century harbor scene in Concarneau, France, with figures loading a group of small rowboats against a backdrop of colorful fishing vessels. The image is rendered with a mixture of ink, watercolor and gouache media in shades of blue, red, brown, green and yellow. It is signed ‘Frank-Will’ in crayon to the lower right and titled to the lower left. The painting is double-matted in purple and yellow and presented without glass in a gold tone wooden frame.
Condition
- to poor; significant toning, foxing and discoloration to paper; rips and surface abrasions to paper, with areas of staining and residue to upper left; toning, scratches and residue to mat board; surface wear, nicks and scuffing to frame; discoloration to frame at lower left; frame joints are not fully flush; frame does not include glass, hanging hardware or backing paper.
