A 19th-century oil painting on canvas of a pastoral landscape by well-listed Austrian artist Edmund Mahlknecht (1820-1903). This painting depicts a herd of cattle and a sheep stopped by a gate. In the distance is a figure walking on a dirt path leading towards a house. The scene is rendered in a mountainous area with a sfumato effect. This piece is signed by hand to the lower right corner. This painting is presented in a gilt and gesso frame with a foliate motif. Hanging hardware is present to the verso of the piece.

- patch on verso of canvas center in the clouds; hole on front of canvas where patch is; toning; foxing; cracks in gesso on frame; toning and oil marks on verso of canvas; piece is not relined.
