A machine-made wool area rug by Sphinx Oriental Weavers. Large acanthus leaves and vines in various hues of browns and greens are symmetrically arranged to a maroon field. A wide light tan main border repeats similar motifs. A label to the verso indicates this rug was woven on electronic Axminster looms and reads in part “Sphinx by Oriental Weavers / Knightsbridge Collection of Axminster Rugs from Sphinx / Made in Egypt / Wools of New Zealand.”
