Alfredo Sciarrotta Sterling Silver Leaf-Shaped Bowl

A vintage hand-crafted sterling silver bowl by Italian-American silversmith Alfredo Sciarrotta (1907-1985). It is in his signature leaf-shape featuring a curled over rim and three ball feet. To the underside it is marked, ‘HandMade by Sciarrotta, 30, Sterling’. Bowl weighs approximately 3.790 ozt.
During World War II Alfredo Sciarrotta was smuggled out of Italy in order to carry out an operation for the U.S. Navy Torpedo Station as an engineer using his skills as an undersea weapons expertise. He required these expertise while in Naples, Italy working under scientist Carlo Colossi, who for the Germans in WWII invented the first magnetic torpedo exploder.
