Hand-Knotted Signed Persian Isfahan Wool Area Rug
Item Details
A hand-knotted signed Persian Isfahan wool area rug. The large rug has been worked in shades of ivory, peacock, indigo, cadet blue, umber, steel gray, sky, olive, taupe, and fawn. A lobed central star pendant medallion is surrounded by an ivory field densely populated by floral palmettes with lancet and split leaves, and lotus flowers. The primary border is infilled with scrolling acanthus leaves, lobed flowers, and stylized palmettes. It is flanked by multiple guard borders with leaf and vine motifs. The rug is boldly signed in black with the frame of an ivory cartouche. The selvedges are overcast, strips of stabilizing material are basted along the edges on the underside, and there is fine fringe at each end. Other than the signature, the rug is not marked.
