Hand-Knotted Persian Silk and Wool Area Rug

A hand-knotted silk and wool Persian rug. The supple rug has been worked in shades of midnight blue, powder blue, brick, peach, salmon, sand, sage, and olive. There is a lobed pendant medallion infilled with palmettes and floral motifs. The midnight blue field is densely populated with a palmette, flower, lance leaf, and vine pattern. The guard borders are made of multiple meander and lobed flower motifs while the primary borders features enlarged palmettes, flowers, and scrolling leaves. The selvedges are overcast and there is fringe at each end. Unmarked.
