An oil painting on canvas and fabric scraps of an abstract composition by Louis Papp (New York; born 1930), dated 1981. The work uses contrasting black and white pigment with various types of fabric collage in an abstract composition. To the verso, the painting is signed and dated. The work is presented freestanding without a frame.

Louis Papp was a New York based artist known for his abstract, mixed media paintings. He was also a member of the Art Students League, a renowned and respected art school headquartered in Manhattan in the 1970’s and 80’s.

Condition

- some wear to the edges of the canvas; cloth to the center of the work is loose; to the verso, some paint marks.
