Mexican Ex-Voto Painting on Tin

An early 20th-century Mexican ex-voto oil painting on tin. The work depicts a gluttonous young girl asks for forgiveness as devils attack her for her sin. It remains unmounted and unframed.

The Spanish text at the bottom is roughly translated as: ‘In the party of September 15, Carlota Valdez ate 12 tamales, 8 tacos, 2 pozoles, capirota and soak the chicken in mole and because of this sin of gluttony during the night multiple red devils went to punish her, pinching her without mercy with their tridents, she repented of her great sin and she asked for forgiveness to the virgin and in that moment Our lady of Zapopan frightened the devils that disappeared.’

Condition

- light scratches and marks to the metal throughout; small stains present along the edges; some small areas of paint loss.
