Antique Newcastle, England Sterling Silver "Thread and Shell" Dinner Forks
Item Details
A set of seven antique sterling silver thread and shell pattern dinner forks by Reid & Son (Christian Ker Reid & David Reid) and John Robertson II & John Walton of Newcastle, England, circa 1803. The forks have the traditional fiddle thread shape with bivalve shell motifs at the ends and underneath the tines. Each fork is engraved with a family crest depicting a songbird with a berry branch in its beak. To the versos, they are marked with a maker’s mark, English sterling silver lion passant, the Newcastle city mark, the crowned leopard, and King George III’s duty mark. At least one fork is marked with a ‘N’ date mark instead of the crowned leopard. Total approximate set weight is 18.340 ozt.
