A mixed media sculpture titled Top Dog by artist Frank Kowing (1944-2016), completed in 2010. It is from the HMS series. This work depicts a winged dog with a puppet in its mouth on which is written ‘Victim of Plutocracy.’ It is rendered with acrylic, wood, fabric, and other found objects. This work is signed and dated in ink on the right wing. Please note that this item does not come with a certificate of authentication or provenance. Frank Kowing is an outsider artist based in Maryland with a larger than life reputation. The bulk of his focus is mixed media works, many grand in scale and with three dimensional quality. He has participated in a vast array of group shows and exhibits since his first shows in the 1970’s in New York City. His education, after service in Vietnam with the US Army, was extensive and included the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam, Netherlands, and several fine art institutions in Pennsylvania.
