Provenance: Property from an American Midwestern Museum.

A gouache painting on paper titled Choctaw Removal by listed American artist Norma Howard (born 1960), created in 1998. This painting features a group of Choctaw wandering in the snow after being cast out of their homes and is rendered with exquisite detail. It is signed and dated to the lower right and titled to the verso and a frame plaque. This painting is presented matted and housed in a gilt beveled wooden and gesso frame under glass.

Norma Howard is a self-taught Choctaw Native American artist from Stigler, Oklahoma, who paints genre scenes of children playing, women working in fields, and more inspired by family stories and Choctaw life. She has taken top honors at the Santa Fe Indian Market every year from 1998-2002. In 2001, Howard won the Best of Painting Award at the Santa Fe Indian Market.
