A gouache painting on paper of a South Western wintry landscape by listed Navajo artist Justin Tso (born 1948). The piece depicts a arid and rocky territory comprised of delicate d and intricate brushstrokes. The painting is signed to the lower right corner. A framer’s stamp is included to the verso. The piece is presented beneath triple matting, behind museum glass, housed in a wood frame with a black painted accent.
Justin Tso was born in Canyon de Chelly, Arizona and is known for his equestrian scenes and Navajo reservation landscapes. He is very proud of his heritage and takes great care to portray this in his paintings. He went to many different schools all over the southwest including Chinle, Arizona; Gallup, New Mexico; and Lawton, Oklahoma, and completed his education at I.T.C. in San Francisco, California, and the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.
