America Meredith Watercolor and Gouache on Paper "Chapmans-Cheyenne"

A watercolor and gouache painting on paper titled Chapman Chayenne by listed Swedish-Cherokee artist America Meredith (American; born 1972). The work depicts an intricate portrait of a Cherokee family comprised of a seated male figure, a young woman and children. The piece is signed and titled in ink to the verso. A metal plate with the artist’s name and title of the piece is affixed to the lower area of the frame. An informational gallery label is adhered to the backing. This painting is presented behind glass, beneath white matting, housed in a wood frame with a black finish.

Meredith acquired her formal artistic training from the University of Oklahoma. Upon graduating, she further pursued her artistic career and moved to San Francisco, refining her technique while continuing her education at the San Francisco Art Institute. Throughout her life, Meredith has been an active participator in the movement of revitalization indigenous languages and engaged member of the Cherokee Arts and Humanities Council. Her work has been exhibited and collected in public and private institutions including Samara Regional Art Museum, Ekaterinburg Museum of Fine Arts, Tweed Museum of Art, and New Mexico Museum of Art, among others.
