Ruth Goldsborough Oil Painting on Canvas "Old Tucson"

An oil painting on canvas titled Old Tuscon by Ruth Goldsborough (American, 1918 – 2013), dated 1980. The work depicts a worn and tired dwelling shadowed by cool brown and grey mountains. To the bottom right, the work is signed and dated. A metal plaque is attached to the frame engraved with the title and the artist’s name. The painting is presented in a deep gold-toned wood and gesso frame with a decorative fabric fillet.

Art educator and painter Ruth Goldsborough began her formal art training under the tutelage of painter, printmaker, and educator George Jo Mess (American, 1898 – 1962) at Indiana University. She also studied at the John Heron School of Art. After her husband’s death in 1975 the artist traveled throughout Arizona painting scenes of the American West. Her work can be viewed in private collections and institutions including the Cherokee Museum in Oklahoma. At the time of her death an Education Fund for the Hendersonville Art League was created in her honor.
