A Songye Kifwebe style carved wood mask from the Democratic Republic of Congo in Central Africa. The mask features exaggerated facial features including an elongated mouth and deep cut out eyes. The mask is adorned with carved lines across the face. The Kifwebe mask is utilized for ceremonial purposes and is believed to have spiritual significance in Songwe culture. The mask is unmarked. There is a leather strap affixed to the verso.
