An oil portrait on board titled Kituwa Man by celebrated Cherokee artist Talmadge Davis (1962-2005), created in 2003. This bust portrait features a three-quarter view of a Native American man dressed in elaborate regalia. Portrayed with dramatic chiaroscuro against a dark vague background, the sitter gazes at the viewer with a serious expression on his face. The work is signed and dated ‘4 – 03’ to the lower right. It is presented in wood frame with scrolling foliate moulding, gilt accents, and a dark cherry finish. A metal plate is affixed to the lower center of the frame engraved with the title and artist’s name.

Talmadge Davis was born in Oklahoma and is known for his paintings of Native American and military scenes influenced by his heritage and time in the army. His work has been displayed in the Gilcrease Museum of Art in Tulsa and a traveling exhibit at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. He also holds the titled of Master Artist by the Five Civilized Tribes Museum in Muskogee.
