Dora McCollister Attributed Oil Painting on Canvas Board of Statue in Garden

Item Details

An original vintage oil painting on canvas board by well-listed Ohio artist Dora G. McCollister (1860 – 1945). The painting depicts a Renaissance era statue, possibly depicting the Roman myth The Rape of the Sabine Women situated in a lush garden. A esplanade lined with columned arches fills the background. The painting is unsigned, but per consignor came directly from the artist’s estate. It is presented without matting or framing, awaiting your choice of presentation.

McCollister graduated from the Columbus School of Art and Design in 1932 and was the first fine arts graduate of the Ringling College of Art and Design (Sarasota, Florida), in April 1937.
