An oil painting on canvas landscape scene with English setters by Eugène Joseph Constant Pierre Petit (French, 1839 – 1933). Two English setters appear in the clearing of a grassy field. Trees line the rolling hills in the distance with blue skies above. To the verso is paper label inscribed by the artist reading, ‘This is to certify that the oil painting representing chiens is an original composition painted by me in the city of Paris in the year 1906./ October 22, 1909/ E. Petit.’ The work is presented in a Barbizon-style gilt and gesso wood frame with acanthus top moulding.
