A set of antique copies of The Book of Cricket: A New Gallery of Famous Players magazine. The fourteen issues of this late 19th century and early 20th century publication feature articles with black and white photographs of well-known cricket players throughout the British Empire. The light green paperback cover is marked ‘To be completed in about 14 Sixpenny Weekly Parts – Price 6d. – Edited by C. B. Fry – Published by George Newnes, Ltd., 7-12, Southampton St., Strand, W.C. – Printed by Hudson & Kearns’. The cover displays a drawing of a cricket player in uniform and a list of players and teams covered in the issue. The forward states that this publication will show the players in action; for example, the bowler John Briggs (1862-1902), a high-scoring wicket-taker, is pictured in a bowling stance. Each portrait also features a facsimile autograph.
