A modernist oil painting on canvas titled Exotic Dancer by well-listed American artist Edgar Yaeger (1904-1997), created in 1938. This work features a full-body portrait of a semi-nude woman wearing a red scarf tied around her head and a transparent skirt, portrayed with loose gestural brushstrokes and vibrant colors. The painting is signed and dated to the lower right. It is presented in a beige painted wood frame with carved abstract patterns. A descriptive label is present to the verso. Included with the composition is a brochure on the artist and a catalog from Cincinnati Art Galleries, LLC.
Known for his modern abstract style and his WPA murals of the Depression era, Edgar Yaeger was influenced by European modernists such as Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, and Giorgio de Chirico. Yaeger’s work has been exhibited at many institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, among others.
