Item Details

An antique French Henri II style buffet à deux corps, circa 1880s. This antique buffet in two sections – or à deux corps – is constructed of walnut and features an upper buffet with a dentil molded cornice over a frieze with two carved and applied fire breathing dragons flanked by acanthus carved capitals atop foliate carved corners. Between the corners are two moulded framed cabinet doors with stippled daisy and S scroll patterned glass panels. The sides of the upper buffet are carved with a daisy in the center and quarter daisies in the corners. The upper buffet is supported by turned baluster columns in the front corners above the lower buffet with a top with carved edges over two drawers with two carved and applied fire breathing dragons over a pair of floral and foliate carved doors flanked by laurel carved corners. The piece rests on a graduated moulded base on square block feet. No apparent maker’s mark.
