A John Tuska (1931-1998) bronze titled The Gesture depicting a standing male nude presented on a maple plinth. The male figure is sculpted in an expressive manner giving homage to Rodin’s influence. The sculpture was done as a series of four in the late 1980’s and cast at the University of Kentucky’s foundry with the help of the artist’s students following his stroke. The bronze is signed very faintly to the right ankle however a certificate of authenticity is included and signed by the artist’s son who is the Director of his legacy.

John Tuska served as the professor of art at the University of Kentucky for thirty years, inspired generations of students until his retirement in 1993. Raised in New York City, Tuska graduated from the famed High School of Music and Art in 1948 then entered Alfred University in 1949. His exhibits are too numerous to list and his work is included in both public and private collections.
