Jim Sherraden Signed Woodblock Monoprint

Item Details

A signed woodblock monoprint by master printer and curator Jim Sherraden (20th/21st Century), created in 1996. This work features various layered motifs including horses, jockeys, and bull riders printed in vibrant colors against a textural background, surrounded by a striped border. The work is signed, dated, and marked ‘#3’ to the lower right. It is presented under glass, mounted on a black surface, and presented in a black composite frame.

Jim Sherraden is an artist, printer, and curator of Nashville’s famed poster and design shop Hatch Show Print. He is especially known for his woodcuts and ‘monoprints’ – amalgamations comprised of prints from various hand-cut blocks stored in the Hatch Show Print archives. What began as a method to clean ink off of old woodblocks turned into one of Sherraden’s signature processes to create his monoprints that feature the ‘chance merging’ of archived motifs and imagery. Sherraden’s prints have been collected worldwide and exhibited at various art venues including the Smithsonian Institution, the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, and Hatch Show Print’s Haley Gallery, among others.
