A vintage African tribal Kifwebe mask from the Congo region inhabited by the Songye and Luba cultures. The carved and painted wooden mask is characterized by circular striations, elongated eyes and stylized nose and mouth. White paint in the crescent shaped grooves represents the untainted soul beneath the facade. The masks traditionally symbolize supernatural forces to ward off any threat of disaster.
