An oil painting on canvas titled After Fishing by Colorado artist Judge Ed J. Hummer (20th Century). This landscape piece depicts a calm river that winds through a forest populated by trees that have turned the brilliant colors of autumn. On the bank of the river is a white rowboat, half pulled ashore after a fishing trip. The work is signed by hand to the lower left as well as titled and signed to the verso. It is presented in a wood frame with carved ornamentation and a gold tone strip, with a linen liner and gold tone fillet. The piece is wired to the verso for hanging.

Judge Edward (Ed) J. Hummer was born in Weehawken, New Jersey and received his formal education at the University of Notre Dame studying fine arts and accounting. Later he received a Doctorate in Jurisprudence but continued his art education while traveling to Paris, France. Hummer studied privately with painter Carl Kappas, C. Curry Bohm, and Fred W. Rigley in Brown County, Indiana. Hummer is best known for his landscapes, in particular the Colorado Rockies and figurative landscapes of the United States and Mexico. He primarily works in oil paintings and pastel creating rich and vibrant scenes. Hummer’s work is housed in private collections across the United States.
