An oil painting on board titled House in the Woods by American artist Judge Ed J. Hummer (20th Century). This piece depicts a small house at the end of a winding dirt road through the woods. The house is dwarfed by a mountain range that rises up behind it. It is painted with visible, textured brushstrokes and signed to the lower right in paint. The piece includes a pamphlet with information on the artist and is presented unframed.

Judge Edward (Ed) J. Hummer was born in Weehawken, New Jersey and received his formal education at the University of Notre Dame studying fine arts and accounting. Later he received a Doctorate in Jurisprudence but continued his art education while traveling to Paris, France. Hummer studied privately with painter Carl Kappas, C. Curry Bohm, and Fred W. Rigley in Brown County, Indiana. Hummer is best known for his landscapes, in particular the Colorado Rockies and figurative landscapes of the United States and Mexico. He primarily works in oil paintings and pastel creating rich and vibrant scenes. Hummer’s work is housed in private collections across the United States.
